The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) applied a new standard for members of the European Union since 18th January , 2016: if you wanted to apply for NMC registration as a nurse in UK you needed to obtain IELTS Academic Exam with a minimum of 7.0 in each part of the test (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening).
Since last 28th, November 2018 the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) accepts an IELTS certificate as proof of English level with a minimum of 6.5 in writing (written part). The rest of the test, minimum of 7.0.
Which alternatives should you consider if you want to work as a nurse in UK Hospitals?
- Start working as Health Care Assistant (HCA): if you do not have English Level to obtain NMC registration you could start working as a HCA until achieve your goals. Hospitals could offer you a vacancy with support for English classes and NMC registration.
- Start working as a nurse: you will need required English certificates to have the opportunity for an interview. If you have registration, the opportunities increase exponentially.
Jobs Agency FM recommends having a B2 level of English if you want to apply for a HCA position because if you have a lower level it will be very difficult for you to execute your functions as nurse in an English speaking country. If you want to apply for NMC registration and access to an interview for working as a nurse in UK directly, check English level required.
