The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) applied a new standard for members of the European Union since 18th January , 2016: if you wanted to apply for NMC registration as a nurse in UK you needed to obtain IELTS Academic Exam with a minimum of 7.0 in each part of the test (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening).
Since last 28th, November 2018 the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) accepts an IELTS certificate as proof of English level with a minimum of 6.5 in writing (written part). The rest of the test, minimum of 7.0.
Which alternatives should you consider if you want to work as a nurse in UK Hospitals?
- Start working as Health Care Assistant (HCA): if you do not have English Level to obtain NMC registration you could start working as a HCA until achieve your goals. Hospitals could offer you a vacancy with support for English classes and NMC registration.
- Start working as a nurse: you will need required English certificates to have the opportunity for an interview. If you have registration, the opportunities increase exponentially.
Jobs Agency FM recommends having a B2 level of English if you want to apply for a HCA position because if you have a lower level it will be very difficult for you to execute your functions as nurse in an English speaking country.
